“Vietnam Week 2008” scheduled in Japan from Sept. 15-21 will bring vivid images of Vietnamese landscape, culture and people to Japanese people through a series of activities and performances, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

The Hue Relics Preservation Centre is building a community-based preservation campaign with the assistance of the French northernmost region of Nord Pas de Calais. The core of the campaign will be local young people, who will be equipped with knowledge on the heritage law and Hue relics through experts’ lectures and fact-finding tours and then pass on the information to people around them.

The central province of Quang Ngai is hosting a four-day cultural exchange festival beginning September 5 to showcase Quang Ngai’s cultural highlights and Jeju Island, a self-governing province in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Local and international experts gathered in the former imperial city of Hue on August 29 for a workshop to discuss a national action plan to safeguard nha nhac (royal court) music of Vietnam. The two-day workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Cultural Heritage Department, UNESCO’s Hanoi office, the National Committee for UNESCO in Vietnam, the Japanese embassy, and court music artists and practitioners of Thua Thien – Hue Province.

International visitors to Vietnam in August estimated 339,000 arrivals. Totally, international visitors in 8 months of year 2008 reached 3,009,153 arrivals, 6.9% higher than those in the same period of year 2007.
