The opening ceremony featured songs and dances highlighting the land, people, and culture of ethnic groups in Ha Giang Province.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Son stressed that the buckwheat flower has become a signature tourism product attracting visitors to Ha Giang.

The festival aims to honour the natural landscape of the locality as well as the cultural values of Dong Van Krast Plateau.

The two-day festival includes a buckwheat flower arrangement contest, a photo exhibition and a display of cultural and agricultural products in Ha Giang. Visitors can also learn about making buckwheat cakes and wine as well as sample them.

A street carnival is scheduled for the evening of October 16 with the participation of hundreds of people from the four districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac, who will introduce visitors to flute performances of the Mong people and traditional rituals of the Dao people.

Over the first nine months of this year, Ha Giang has welcomed over 600,000 tourists, bringing revenue of more than VND 500 billion (US$22.4 million). This year’s festival expects to welcome around 120,000 visitors, twice as many compared with the previous edition.
