Viet Nam delivers message on Tourism for Peace at UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture

(TITC) – In the framework of UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture taking place from December 11-12, 2017 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, Vietnamese delegation led by Chairman of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan attended Special Dialogue on Cultural Tourism as a Factor of Peace and Prosperity.

Chairman of VNAT, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan delivered a message on tourism for peace at the Dialogue

At the Dialogue, representatives of countries and organizations of UNESCO, WB, WTTC shared experience on tourism contribution to peace and social-economic development in the areas suffered from wars or conflicts; and stories about reborn destinations.

Speaking at the Dialogue, Chairman Nguyen Van Tuan highlighted achievements of Viet Nam tourism and delivered a message on tourism for peace. Accordingly, Chairman Nguyen Van Tuan said that in the past many young people from the US, Australia, South of Korea came to Viet Nam for the wars. Tens of years after the wars ended, they came back Viet Nam to visit former battlefields to find peace in their soul.

Especially, they even contributed to building schools, clinics; improving local livelihoods in Viet Nam. Besides, they introduced Viet Nam – a country with beautiful landscapes and diversified culture to their friends and families. It can be recognized that tourism brings people closer and fosters peace and prosperity.

The story of Viet Nam received attention from the delegates. In the agenda on global tourism development, many countries stressed that tourism development should be fostered for peace and prosperity because tourism is able to promote mutual understanding and closer relationship which could help prevent conflicts.
