WWF names Da Nang City national winner of One Planet City Challenge

(TITC) - On July 10, Da Nang City was listed by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) amongs 22 national winners around the world of One Planet City Challenge programme. Hue City also received the same title in 2016.

Da Nang has been selected as national finalists in the 2017 - 2018
edition of the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) for its great efforts in providing sustainable housing, transportation, and energy for its residents

 

One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) is an initiative designed by WWF to call for action and support from cities in the global transition towards a 100% renewable future. It also aims to stimulate the development and dissemination of best practices for climate mitigation and adaptation

Since the inception of the Challenge in 2011, WWF has engaged of 400 cities across 5 continents. In the 2017-2018 round, 132 cities from 23 countries participated in the One Planet City Challenge, in which, Viet Nam has 3 cities including Da Nang City, Dong Ha City (Quang Tri Province) and Hoi An City (Quang Nam Province). The three cities were amongst the 40 final list

Under the rules, invited cities in participating countries are required a climate and emission report as well as committed and actions to develop sustainably on climate, transportation, construction, energy, water source... Base on these, the organization board will select one national winner each country on final round. Then they will choose one city to be honored as global winner of the One Planet City Challenge

WWF also announced other national winners, namely Belo Horizonte (Brazil), Guadalajara (Mexico), Magdalena (Peru); Quito (Ecuador), Yasothon (Thailand); Izmir (Turkey), Melaka (Malaysia), Rajkot (India), Yokohama (Japan), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania); Jakarta (Indonesia), Moterius (Colombia), Santiago (Chile), Cleveland (USA), Kampala (Uganda); Pachalum (Guatemala), Upsala (Sweden), Thekwini (South Africa), Karachi (Pakistan),  Pasig (Philippines), Vancouver (Canada).
