The food and beverage services (F&B) sector comprises such businesses as restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs and street food stalls. In tourism, the F&B sector is an integral part of the product mix of destinations and frequently a critical component of government socio - economic development strategies.
In Vietnam, cuisine plays a central role in the highly social culture of the people, making the F&B services sector all the more significant. In terms of value, the F&B services sector in Vietnam was estimated to be worth more than US$ 26 million in 2010, with growth expectations of almost 40% by 2015 (to US$ 37 million).
The continued successful and sustainable growth of the F&B services sector in Vietnam is however, not without a range of challenges. As a result, this Factsheet was developed in order to provide some orientation towards responsible tourism practices by addressing the following issues:
• Adopting a Responsible Tourism approach to food & beverage services
• Manage resources more efficiently
• Source food responsibly
• Look after customers and the community
