The Council for the Promotion of Tourism in Asia is a Japanese initiative aiming at achieving prosperity and development for the tourism network, including nine Asian cities; Bangkok, Deli, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo.
Although urban tourism implicates both positive and negative impacts, competitive and sustainable tourism should allow people to live, work, visit and do business. ESRT advisor Kai Partale presented at the CPTA meeting in his presentation “Responsible Tourism - a Crucial Concept for a Sustainable City Tourism Development” background information on urban tourism, as well as its positive and negative impacts. Further, he introduced Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria for Destinations, applied to urban tourism, emphasizing these by presenting best practice examples of European Green Capitals.
Responsible Tourism is about effectively creating positive experiences for local people, tourism companies and the tourists in an urban environment.
