Celebrating World Tourism Day in Vietnam

In support of United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation, World Tourism Day (WTD) 27 September 2013 is being held globally under the theme Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future. This year’s theme highlights tourism’s role in water access and shines a spotlight on the actions currently being taken by the sector in order to contribute to a more sustainable water future, as well as the challenges ahead.

To celebrate the World Tourism Day ESRT - EU-funded Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism prepared programme with the Press Meeting (on September 26, 2013) and the Bicycles Parade (on September 27, 2013), that was jointly organised by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and ESRT.

On September 26, 2013, a Press Meeting was organized in Vietnam National History Museum with 150 participants from VNAT, ESRT and media.

After two speeches from VNAT, on behalf of the ESRT Programme, Mr. Kai Partale announced ESRT’s contribution to World Tourism Day, and handovered the Responsible Tourism Toolkit to the Chairman of VNAT, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan.

The panel board (chairman, vice chairman of VNAT and Mr. Kai Partale) then answered questioned raised by reporters.

180 students from three tourism colleges and universities that have tourism department were divided into three groups (60 each) to ride the bicycles around Hanoi.

PIU staff wore T-shirt and joined the ceremony before the parade began.

The Chairman of VNAT said a few words to announced and started the parade.

The event went live on VTV1.
