Summation Of The ESRT Programme’s Activities In 2013

In the context of the rapidly growing demand of tourism development and implementation of tourism development strategy and master plan, the ESRT Programme implemented Programme Estimate No. 2 in 2013 with various activities. The following results and activities are the major outcomes of the ESRT Programme to provide environmentally and socially responsible tourism services as a part of Vietnam Tourism Strategy.

Researching and reporting the Training Need Assessment was aimed at better understanding the current status of Vietnam tourism human resource while identifying new skills areas as well as emerging skills in the industry.

1-month training course on Responsible and Sustainable Tourism for 20 officials from provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Malaysia was held in November 2013.

Developed proposed Tourism Marketing Strategy to 2020 and Action Plan to 2015, organized 3 training courses for officials of local Tourism Promotion Agencies nationwide. Supported Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in organizing the Conference on Positioning of Tourism Brand.

Developed the Responsible Tourism Policy Framework for Vietnam and organized Conference on Responsible Tourism Policy in Da Nang.

Supported VNAT in organizing events related to sustainable tourism development: Spiritual tourism, Tourist Support Centers, Meeting with tourism businesses, Conference on Tour guides and Receptionists, etc.

Organized the study tour to Europe for Vietnamese Delegation including officials from Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, VNAT and other related ministries in order to research the European practices of responsible tourism development.

Supported Tourism Advisory Board’s operation.

Signing ceremony of a Letter of Intent on cooperation in the field of sustainable tourism between Vietnam’s Government and the European Union Delegation to Vietnam.

Organized 4 Technical Working Group meetings of 8 Northwestern provinces Steering Committee; 2 technical meetings with 3 Central Coast provinces, 1 technical meeting with 3 North Central provinces. Supported the FAM trip of tourism businesses in Northwest region.

Supported Tourism Association (VITA) in organizing Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM 2013) in Hanoi.

Organized four workshops on implementation of Green Lotus label for hotels in Ha Long, Phu Tho, Son La, and Hanoi.

Activities aimed at raising awareness on responsible tourism: Training for resident communities, Celebrating World Tourism Day 27/9, “Go green to 9 estuaries” bicycle parade in Ho Chi Minh City, etc.

Supported Vietnam Tourism Certification Boards operation.

Training on business capacity improvement for tourism businesses in Ha Long, Son La, Dien Bien, Kontum and Can Tho.

Organized three workshops on dissemination of ASEAN Mutual Recognition Agreement implementation guidance developed by the ESRT Programme.

Completed ten new Vietnam Tourism Occupational Skills (VTOS) standards to submit for revision and approval by implementing authorities. Training on updating new VTOS for VTOS trainers in Hotel and Travel sectors.

Supported in providing equipment for VNAT and its agencies ten community centres and five new tourism colleges.

Piloting training courses in accordance with the new VTOS materials: On-site tour guide, Tourist boat service, SMEs management.
