Meeting of the ESRT's Project Steering Committee

The final Project Steering Committee meeting of the ESRT Programme, which was held on 6th August 2015 in Hanoi, reviewed and concluded a 5-year period of project implementation, from 2011 - 2015.

 At the meeting, Mr. Vu Quoc Tri, ESRT Programme’s Director, gave an overview of the implementation progress of Project activities in the first half of 2015. The ESRT Programme continued to provide VNAT with increasingly effective support in order to effectively roll out the Resolution No. 92/NQ-CP issued by the Government on a number of solutions to promote the tourism development in Viet Nam in the new period. A wide range of activities such as tourism promotion, tourism statistics, tourism planning and raising of awareness on responsible tourism lay in the focus of ESRT implementation effort.

At the same time, in the pilot areas of 8 North Western provinces, 3 Central Coast provinces and the Mekong Delta region, the ESRT Programme intensively promoted the establishment of the Destination Management Organization with the active engagement of enterprises and local communities, increasing the binding of the public and private sectors.


Besides, in the first half of 2015, the ESRT Programme continued to develop VTOS standards into National Occupational Standards and organize a series of VTOS dissemination workshops for various tourism training institutions nationwide.


Subsequently, Kai Partale - Sector Development Specialist and Mary McKeon - Team Leader of the ESRT Programme made presentations on the work plan for the next period from 1/7/2015 to 10/11/2015 and the Project Phasing-out Plan (after 10/11/2015) respectively.

After listening to the report by the ESRT Progamme, the Project Steering Committee members raised their opinions to work out solutions for increasing effectiveness of activities to be implemented in the next period. At the same time, the PSC members also discussed to agree on the plan of Project closing on 10/11/2015.
